We love helping patients of all ages, but when parents ask us the ideal age to bring their kids in for their first orthodontic appointment we recommend they schedule their child’s initial consultation at around seven or eight years old.
When children come to Glander Rochford Orthodontics at this age, our focus is to prevent more severe issues from occurring later in life. Dr. Glander and Dr. Rochford are able to monitor a child’s growth and make corrections if necessary as they are growing.
What is Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment?
Phase 1 orthodontic treatment can be completed when a child still has some baby teeth.
Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment is also known as early orthodontic treatment.
Treatment during phase 1 usually includes braces or a simpler appliance like an expander, which expands the arches of teeth making more room for permanent teeth.
Is Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment Necessary?
It all depends on the individual, and this will be determined at your complimentary consultation in our office.
Phase 1 and Phase 2 Orthodontic Resting period.
After a child goes through Phase 1 orthodontic treatment, there is typically a resting period before starting Phase 2 orthodontic treatment.
This resting period allows the jaw to grow as the remaining permanent teeth come in.
During this resting phase, we will still schedule appointments to see your child and supervise how the teeth and jaw are growing.
Sometimes a retainer is recommended during this resting period.
What is Phase 2 Orthodontic Treatment?
Phase 2 orthodontic treatment occurs after all of your child’s permanent teeth have grown in.
Treatment during phase 2 usually includes braces or Invisalign on upper and lower teeth for a specific amount of time that is prescribed to each child.
This phase is often shorter when completed after Phase 1 orthodontic treatment!
