You recently visited Glander Rochford Orthodontics and had your braces put on to start your orthodontic journey. We couldn’t be more excited for you!
While we know you are extremely excited about starting life with braces, we understand that you may feel like you aren’t sure what you can eat with braces. It’s important to avoid anything really hard, crunchy or chewy because it may cause a bracket to come off, which could delay treatment. We know you love coming to see us for your regular appointments, but we also know you want to get your braces off as fast as possible and minimizing the amount of brackets that come off will help with that.
5 Food to Eat with Braces
You can eat a wide variety of foods, but focus on things that are easy to chew and don’t get stuck in your teeth. Here are a few ideas of foods that are safe for your braces and beneficial to your body:
Bananas, Peaches, Applesauce
Basically, any soft fruit is going to be a great food to eat with braces. Fruit contains vitamins, minerals and beneficial fiber and has a delicious sweet flavor!
Eggs (scrambled, hard boiled, etc)
Eggs are a great source of nutrients that are good for your brain and eyes as well as other parts of your body. They also contain protein and fat making them a really satisfying meal or snack addition, and because they are soft eggs are perfect to eat when you have braces.
Soups
Soups and stews are comforting, can be a complete meal, and extremely soft making these dishes perfect for people wearing braces.
Smoothies
Are you looking for something cold and creamy? Try blending fruit, your favorite type of milk, yogurt (and maybe a handful of greens) for a satisfying drink you can sip while you are on the go.
Corn Cut Off the Cob
Corn on the cob will be a challenge to eat, as well popcorn. If you cut the corn off the cob, it becomes a great food to enjoy while you have braces.
Foods to Avoid with Braces:
As a rule, it’s important to avoid foods that fall into these categories when you are wearing braces:
Hard candy
Really crunchy food (like popcorn and nuts)
Chewy food (things like gummy bears, gummy vitamins, bagels and jerky)
